This is an excellent scanner for a very reasonable price. It has a larger number of programmable channels than anyone is ever likely to fill, and the scan rate gets through them fast enough so you won’t miss much. Features like Priority, Delay, and Weather are great.
I found it very easy to program, and had it ready to go in about half an hour, not including the time it took to research and download frequency lists to my tablet, which is also pretty easy.
It can’t handle encrypted traffic, but fire, rescue, and most other local emergency agencies here aren’t encrypted so that isn’t an issue.
The clock/radio feature is nice to have, too, although we probably won’t use it much, and with the battery backup we’ll be able to keep up when the power goes out. Just remember to check the batteries for leakage periodically, as it’s easy to forget they’re in there.

This is one complicated piece of technology to figure how to utilize ! I bought it just before our last hurricane approach, hoping to stay on top of weather , especially in the event of power outage . Well. as a Prime member, it came on time, but trying to get it to operate…..?? OUCH! This was a waste of my money and efforts and wish I could return it for my money back!
Customer Questions & Answers
Is this digital or analog?
Answer: This scanner is Analog. Digital scanners cost an upwards of $400. Many counties are gradually converting to digital, but you can go to www.policescanners.net and type in your zip code to find out if law enforcement in your area uses digital or analog. I found the website very helpful.
Does the AM/FM scan universally or is it in 10 hz gaps as per USA? Here in Australia we have 9 gap for AM so stations 702,711, 873 etc.
Answer: No, it only has 10KHz channel spacing.
Will this scanner work with local police departments in Texas??
Answer: Look up the frequency in www.radioreference.com most local stations should work on this unless they use a digital signal. Then you need a more expensive scanner.
