Top Positive Review

I do not believe in posting a review until a few months after using the product. With that said, my 4year old daughter has been using this unit and thus far, it is exceptional in picture quality, sound, and just as importantly, battery life. Sony claims it has a batter life of 7 1/2 hours, but realistically, it’s about 5 hours under normal use. We do a lot of cummuting, so I need to keep my daughter entertained. The exceptional battery life means I do not need to charge it inbetween every use. I have gone 3 three days without charging this unit, and I love it. With my prior unit, I would sometimes forget to charge it at work, so my daughter would get bored on the ride home from school. With this unit, I do not have to worry about it.

Also, for those who do not drive a luxery car with a sound-proof cabin, this unit has exceptional speakers. It comes with a nice remote so you can adjust the volume in case your passenger decides to turn it too loud. The unit also has a removeable battery pack. Since Sony does not seem to offer additional battery packs for sale, I do not see the use in this feature.

The only thing I do not like about this unit so far is it is bulky and heavy. It’s 31.75 oz (or almost 2 pounds). I know that does not sound like much, but when you have to pack other stuff (especially for travel), you would expect this portable unit to be lighter. The unit is a little on the pricey side, but the overall quality justifies the cost. I will be sure to update this post IF I run into any quality issues that others should be aware of. So far, my 4 year old daughter loves it, and she’s taking great care of it: She learned from her previous experience with the cheaper Dynex portable DVD player that I bought for her 1 year ago.

Top Critical Review

The first one arrived packed with a layer of foam between the screen and the main body; I unpacked everything, plugged it in to charge, and closed the lid. The next day there was no way to open it – I even had a tech at SONY examine one from their stock room to see if there was some weird trick or hidden child lock. There wasn’t. I ordered a replacement (Amazon does make the process wonderfully easy – thanks!) and it arrived already jammed shut, which makes me suspect it was a return that got re-shelved. I’m added big fat notes to the package as I return them. Anyway, I gave up and went to Best Buy and bought a model with no latch to fool with.

Can I buy a battery pack for a sony dvp-fx950
Answer: Of course you can buy anything, but the battery is about $80. This player is about $150 when I got it a while ago…. Suggest you plug it in for use or use $80 towards a different player. It was an okay player for the day. The part number is NP-FX110. Get OEM if possible.
