After reading all the negative comments about this I was very worried that it would not work with my old Sony Camcorder Hi8 tapes and my newer computer with Windows 10. I am so glad I bought it from Amazon rather then from Pinnacle at a savings cost of $30.00. IT WORKS! I downloaded software – already had the proper plugs. It played immediately but rather than sit thru entire video I tested a portion. It worked so I deleted it and then did the transfer – Only negative is you have to watch entire video you are dubbing in REAL TIME which can take a long time but my videos were mostly under 30 minutes. Then I used my Sony Vega 9 Movie Studio program to trim it and burn to a DVD. And it played! I am so glad I don’t have to return another product. Amazing. That’s all I can say and these tapes are from 1992 thru 2000 when camcorders were not digitized yet with SD cards. Soooo happy!

Top Critical Review

DO NOT BUY if you need Windows 10 compatibility. The box itself and the DVD both indicate Windows Vista SP2 , Windows 7, and WIndows 8.x ONLY. If you try to use this under Windows 10, what will happen is you will not be able to install the prerequisite Microsoft .net 4.0 software. I looked at the release date of .net 4.0 and it came out in 2010. I also looked at Windows 10, and it was released July 2015. So what happens is the installation fails with multiple error messages and then the installer software uninstalls itself and dumps you into Windows 10 Desktop.

You should also know that I tried to use Windows 10 compatible software from Pinnacle and that route failed as well. Search on Pinnacle Studio Trial and that’s exactly what you’ll find. I downloaded it, installed it (no catches this time), and tried to use it to find the Dazzle hardware. It fails to find it. That was the last straw for me. I also rated tech support 1 star because they didn’t understand what was wrong and even though I explained it to them (one via chat one via phone) they both said a higher level support employee was necessary. I left my phone number for a call back, and when I got tired of waiting because nobody called me, I gave it up, and returned it today — same day I received it.
