I do a lot of console work and was using a USB to Serial (9 Pin) by Belkin – that works great but bulky to carry. I got this to simplify and I just plugged it into my Win7 and Win10 laptops. I allowed the driver install from Window Update and it installed the 2017 FTDI USB Serial Port driver and the FTDI USB Serial Converter driver successfully. For working with Cisco Router – I changed the Baud to 9600 – Data Bits 8 – Stop Bits 1 – Parity None – Flow Control None and it works without issue. Very happy with this purchase.

I was very disappointed with this purchase. I have been using a makeshift serial cable connected to a USB cord. The one I seen this on Amazon I was ready to purchase a replacement. I tried this cable with every setting possible. I tried broad rates 9200 and 11 5200. Nothing worked with this cable. The surprising thing was it when I use my old cable with the exact same settings everything work fine. So with much disappointment I sent this one back. I hope to find a replacement cable it works. If anyone knows of a good cable that works for them please let me know. If you do by this cable I hope you can get it to work. Thanks for reading my review.

Answer: Yes. As long as the device has a console port, this cable will work. Be sure to set your terminal emulator (PuTTY, Minicom, Screen) to the correct settings for your device. The default for a Cisco router that would be 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, and no flow control.

If your switch’s console port only support usb C, then this one is not it. I have 2 x usb adapter (no brand name from eBay) with genuine CISCO console cable and 1 Oikwan CISCO console cable. On CISCO c4500, only Oikwan provide clear output and readable to completed my task. The other 2 x USB adapter with console cable??
