Bad cables can ruin even the most expensive, cutting edge home theaters, good thing Monster Cable exists, giving us the ability to take full advantage of the much more expensive leisure products we have purchased and will spend a relatively large portion of our time enjoying in our homes.
This cable provides excellent sound quality for my needs. The current set up I have connects a Bose TV Speaker ($180 refurbished from Bose) to my 46″ Sony TV’s ($80 from a friend who didn’t have space for it) optic output so sound from the TV and my game systems (PS5 & XBox One) default to playing through my speaker. You may need to go into the TV’s menu to change audio from TV speakers to external source to default audio to whatever speaker you have connected with the optic cable. The voices come through so clear when watching a TV show or movie, while the sound is dynamic when listening to music or playing a videogame. I know this is largely due to the speaker itself, but a system is only as good as it’s weakest link, which is often a cheap cable. In my case, the cable is definitely not the weakest link. Goodbye 😉

Ordered this for my new JBL Bar 9.1 soundbar. One shortcoming of Toslink has always been the mechanical fit of the plug to the jack, which is weak. This cable’s plugs have no friction fit at all; they barely stay put in the jack under the cable’s weight.

Short story: it doesn’t work. Any slight vibration or movement and the connection cuts out because the plug wiggles around in the jack. This happens on either end, not just at the soundbar, so it’s not a jack problem. Might be due to the heavy (and mostly ornamental) strain relief shell, or to an under-sized plug, or a combination of the two. Either way it was a waste of $30.

I had an Amazon Basics Toslink cable on hand that I bought for $10 a couple years ago. Plugged it in – works great, with a nice friction fit and no movement.

Monster, you can do better.
