My review is for the ??Ceiling Sensor for J-Box Installation MPC-50V?? the one that comes with 2 small grey wires for a momentary switch. I installed mine in my garage which is my work shop and it works flawlessly, it has an internal relay so it can work with any type of load up to its limit (800 watts Incandescent) The gray wires and the Vacancy function (dip switch) is pooooorly explained in the instructions. In most cases the grey wires are not used and the vacancy dip switch is left to disable but if you want to know what do they do here it goes: They should be connected to a momentary normally open switch (Push button like your door bell or your garage door opener) I set my sensor to 10 minutes delay (I call it timer) so lights will go off 10 minutes after the LAST motion is detected. VACANCY DISABLED: The sensor detects motion > lights turns on > new motion reset timer, timer runs out > lights turns off; while lights are on, the momentary switch will turn lights off and on as many times as you want until timer runs out. If you turn the lights off with the momentary switch they will remain off even if new motion is detected (timer ALWAYS resets w/ new motion regardless mode setting ) UNTIL the timer runs out, THEN a new motion will turn lights on. VACANCY ENABLED: The sensor is sensing but lights remain off, the momentary button will turn lights on, ONLY if timer is active that means sensing must happen before, if the lights are on and the timer expire the lights turns off BUT if in the next 30 seconds the sensor sense motion again the lights will tune back on for another timer period, if the timer and the 30 seconds expire you go back to the beginning were sensing will not turn on lights. In short this mode prevent lights from turning on during periods you don??t want, lights stays off if manually turned off or timer + 30 sec expires. In my case I have it on Vacancy Disable. I push the momentary switch if I know I will not return for a while so lights do not stay on for the duration of the timer.

The price is decent, but the thing that I truly found frustrating was at a nowhere does it tell you that the only type of box that will house this sensor is a octagon box. Originally I installed foursquare boxes with mud rings in the ceiling during the construction phase. When it came time to trim out and install the sensors, I found out the hard way that not a single mud ring will house this sensor. Not a two gang mud ring, not a single gang mud ring nor a round 4/0 mud ring.
So then my next thing I was going to have to do was put blank plates on my existing boxes and install a plastic round cut in box (remodel box) but then I found out that the sensor doesn??t fit in that either. I was looking at pictures and it seems that these may fit in a plastic round 4/0 nail on box but I am not positive about that.
I would just think that the designer would make these more easier to fit in common electrical boxes and common mud ring applications. I am just super surprised that it is so difficult for them to create a design that could fit in more applications with common electrical trade junction boxes. Now yes, granted they do give you the dimensions of the sensor, but for the average Electrician, we don??t just know dimensions on the top of our heads of the opening dimensions of all our j-boxes.
This ended up costing me a lot of money I??m labor and it cost me a lot of headache. It would be very helpful if they would specify the type of boxes that it does fit in versus just giving dimensions. Especially since there??s only a couple boxes that this will actually fit in, it seems it would be simple for them to list those boxes. Hope this helps somebody. If you know any events, can you prepare accordingly with the proper boxes, then I don??t think you??ll have any problem. Just wanted to share this to possibly make awareness. I don??t want to wait till the trim out to figure this out. Huge mistake on my part.

Customer Questions & Answers

Is there a reset button? Product worked great for 2 weeks and no it will not turn off.
Answer: No reset Button on this one, try taking the power off it for a minute or 2 then put power back, then that should reset it.

Will this have a problem working in a walk in closet? i.e. will you have to stand right under it?
Answer: It will work fine in the closet.

is it safe to use out on aporch
Answer: It is a low voltage control system. As long as it is sheltered from direct rain it should be ok, certainly not dangerous.

I have a 24v power supply ( not using the power pack) and want to use this product to control a nc or no relay, any idea how to configure and wire?
Answer:

I don??t own this, but I assume it has black, white and red leads (for AC), DC should be the same.

Every one i??ve worked with gets wired like this:

Black – hot or power
